Writers' Favorite Christmas Songs

We LOVE Christmas music around here (some of us love it all year long!) We asked our authors to share some of their own or their characters' favorite Christmas songs so that we could share them with you.

"O Holy Night" is Jenna's favorite in Julie Arduini's Entrusted.

TJ McKendrick, the fiesty heroine in Elizabeth Noyes' Imperfect Wings chose "White Christmas" as her favorite Christmas song.

"Silent Night" is a popular carol for many. Two characters, from vastly different lives, chose Silent Night as their favorite Christmas song, and it's not surprising, since the authors themselves are self-proclaimed twins. Nancy Sanderson, created by Betty Thomason Owens in Amelia's Legacy, lives in the 1920s, and Libby Overstreet in Fay Lamb's Libby, lives in the present. Wonder how they'll agree on this version of their favorite song?

Towdah's author, Sheryl Holmes, chose "Joy to the World." Sheryl has taught all of us that joy is contagious even in the darkest of times.

One of the most unique songs shared was by Jerusha Agen's character Nye Sanders in This Dance. I'd never heard the song previously and discovered several versions on YouTube. I've been assured that Julie Andrews' version is Nye's favorite of  “In the Bleak Midwinter.”

Our publisher, Tracy Ruckman, must share her favorites too because she could listen to Christmas music all year round. (And sometimes does, thanks to the CBN Radio Christmas channel that streams year-round!)

Her favorite Christmas song has been her favorite since she was in children's choir back in the early 70s. She still remembers the page in the song book. Her favorite, "O Little Town of Bethlehem" was on the right, and "O Come All Ye Faithful" was on the left. The artwork in the songbook is still one of her favorite Christmas memories, too.

What's YOUR favorite Christmas song?

  1. I love learning about everyone's choices. This year I've really enjoyed Penatonix. I don't think there is a bad Christmas song...okay, at least not from this list!

    1. I LOVE Christmas songs, so I think you're right - there aren't many bad ones. (As soon as I declared there aren't ANY, I'll be inundated with them. LOL!)

  2. I absolutely adore that video paired with In the Bleak Midwinter! I had never seen it before. What a gorgeous representation of the beauty of winter and snow. Thanks for finding the video, Tracy. Now I have a new treasure with the song!
