- Follow directions given in the submission guidelines, if available. The directions are there for a reason.
- Proof, proof, proof your submission, including your cover letter and entire proposal. Eliminate typos, extra spacings, correct misspelled words. Your submission doesn't have to be perfect, but a lack of effort reveals much.
- Be patient. Your submission isn't the only one being considered. We try to answer as quickly as possible. Sometimes the schedule allows that to be within the week; other times it may take a couple or three weeks. At this point, if you haven't heard from us in 45 days, please send a polite note of inquiry.

We've been inundated with submissions the last few weeks, so my blog presence has been minimal. I'd like to share a few pointers from things I've learned over the past few weeks, to help you better target your submissions, and perhaps to help you catch the eye of other publishers, editors, and agents.
